I blogged earlier about All Songs Considered’s Spring Music Preview. Having finally recovered from SXSW, All Songs Considered finally got around to covering other music.
It was hard, considering their line up, to not buy almost every single album listed on their preview. I was a big fan of Elbow when Asleep in the Back (iTunes link) was released with all of it’s Manchester greatness. I decided to go with something: 1) more design-worthy, 2) new and 3) something from the Midwest.
Needless to say I was very pleased to find Cloud Cult’s recent offering: Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes). It’s a combination of any number of sounds I could mention, but this is where it passed my recent music test: by combining either a variety of styles on one record, or combining classical musical elements with more modern ones. Cloud Cult does both, very well.
Hopefully I will get to see them this month in Chicago. Anyone who passes either of those tests is usually worth seeing live.
Also: My favorite track thus far is The Tornado Lessons. I like it when I discover the name of the Album cleverly hidden away in one of the tracks. (iTunes link)
