Having worked with some festivals in the past, and having spoken to various conference organizers, I know that there is a tangle sense of energy before a conference even begins, let alone a conference with so much passion behind it.
I just saw Nancy Hull talk about the history and read a bit of On Rough Seas, her debut novel. I almost forget how hard historical fiction writers have it. There writing requires them to either me hugely creative, or hugely literal, and almost never a blend. She’s done it well, I think.
Conference starts properly in about 15 minutes. Chabon and Schmidt, here I come.
